Lori & Jared in Duck, NC

Lori & Jared in Duck, NC
Lori and Jared brought all of their friends and family to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a wedding splashed with pink in Duck, North Carolina.

To add a touch of beach glamour to her floor-length, sheer, ivory, crystal-edged veil, Lori also tied pink orchids into her updo.
Lori’s five bridesmaids made a splash in fuchsia-colored, knee-length dresses from J.Crew with a grosgrain ribbon at the waist. Each carried a smaller bouquet arrangement that was similar to the bride’s.
Lori’s two flower girls were pretty in pink, wearing sleeveless dresses with sheer pink overlays. Each carried her petals in a silver pail adorned with a starfish.
Jared looked gentlemanly in a khaki-colored suit, white shirt, and pink and white striped tie from Banana Republic. He rounded out his ensemble with a pink rose boutonniere, and, of course, flip-flops. His five groomsmen stood by his side in khakis, white button down shirts, and fuchsia, navy, and white striped ties.
The couple said their “I dos” in the late afternoon, just as the sun was starting to set behind them. They each made their grand entrance during the ceremony procession using the boardwalk onto the beach as their “aisle.”
Shepherd’s hooks with metal pails filled with pink flowers surrounded the altar and denoted the sandy aisle.
In lieu of a unity candle, the couple performed a sand ceremony, during which they each poured a different colored bottle of sand into a cylindrical vase, mixing it together.
To enable them to spend time with their family and friends, Lori and Jared rented an oceanfront home for a week, which they shared with their bridal party, and their families rented a place across the street. The couple’s rental home served as the reception location, and they kept the entrance festive with swags of beach grass tied with pink ribbon and accented with starfish.
To keep things simple and elegant, the couple’s centerpieces consisted of glass bowls filled with sand, shells, starfish, and pink orchids, and each featured a picture of Lori and Jared mounted on a straw mat.
Lori and Jared placed their cake in front of the largest picture window in the house to ensure it would garner plenty of attention. The four-tiered, sour cream pound cake with chocolate ganache and raspberry filling was covered in white buttercream icing and topped with pink orchids, flower petals, and white starfish.
Though Lori and Jared had met several times throughout college, they didn’t really hit it off until three years after they’d graduated, when Jared traveled from Ohio to visit mutual friends in Indianapolis.

The Bride Lori Bahleda, 29, dentist
The Groom Jared Shattuck, 29, automotive engineer
The Date September 30

They dated long distance for two years, forging a relationship out of weekend visits and “ten-plus phone calls a day,” Lori says. “We couldn’t get enough of each other.”
